The Silay Institute Library plays a vital role in education of the students and is the center of the academic life of the school. Next to the teachers and textbooks, the school library, if properly utilized, is the most valuable source of knowledge for the students or for anybody else for that matter.

Silay Institute Library provides quality resources and services to its users, as well as strengthens the most dynamic learning environment in the school community and gives support to the school curriculum.
Library Goals and Objectives
The library is the “heart” of the school and plays an important role in the education of the students. Next to the teacher and the textbooks, the school library, if properly utilized, is the most valuable source of knowledge for the students, teachers, staff and other users. In order to fulfill these goals, the library commits itself to:
- Provide up-to-date reference materials such as books, non-books and non-print materials to the students and teachers in order to acquire more knowledge;
- Provide the students and teachers an atmosphere conducive to reading and learning; and
- Provide opportunity for the students to do research online using the computer in the library for this purpose.

7:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

The library collections include books, magazines, newspapers, maps and clippings.
Services
The library offers the following services:
- Library Orientation and Instruction Program
This is a service given to all freshmen and new students of Silay Institute, in coordination with the teachers in English.
Term papers, researches and clippings are gathered and compiled at the library for references
Acquisitions List- Lists of newly-acquired books are posted at the bulletin board ofthe library
Students have 30-minutes privilege to surf the internet or use the computer network of the library for their research. The computer is intended only for research not for typing research paper, reports and other projects.
General Rules:
The library is the “brain” of the school and it plays an important role in accomplishing the goals of the institution. In order to perform its functions to the satisfaction of the students and other users, the following rules should be strictly observed:
- Observe silence at all times. Idle conversation, loud laughter and other unnecessary noise that can disturb other readers must be avoided.
- Eating, smoking and sleeping inside the library are not allowed.
- Return newspapers and magazines in their proper places.
- Do not return books to the shelves. Leave them on the table.
- Handle books and other library materials with care. These are intended to serve many users after you.
- Present library card when borrowing library materials.
- Leave bags, coats, jackets and big envelopes at the deposit counter. Wallets and other valuables such as cell phones must be brought along with you. The library staff will not be liable for any losses.
- Do not mutilate nor write anything on the pages of the books.
- Cell phones must be in silent mode or turned off inside the library.
Book Circulation Policies
- College students from first year to fourth year are allowed to borrow books from the library.
- General Reference Books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, etc. must be read inside the library. These cannot be brought outside the library.
- Textbooks and other reference books may be borrowed for overnight use starting from 5:00 p.m. and must be returned not later than 9:00 a.m. the following day.
- Fiction books may be borrowed for seven days and can be renewed once the borrower still needs it.
- Students are not allowed to bring out newspapers, magazines, and journals.

Losses
1. Library Card
When a library card is lost, the owner should report this immediately to the librarian. He/She will be issued a replacement card upon payment of P25.00 to the Business Office. No library card will be issued to the student concerned after two (2) losses and the student can no longer avail of borrowing privilege for the rest of the semester.
2. Books
When a book is lost, the borrower should report this immediately to the librarian, otherwise, the borrower will have to pay the overdue fine incurred. A student should replace the same book or pay the cost of the book plus a processing fee of P50.00. If the declared lost book will be returned during the signing of clearance, the borrower will be charged of overdue fines from the date he/she declared the book lost until the date he/she returned the book.
Sections and Services
- Circulation Section- plays a very important function in the library. Books and other library materials are first recorded in this section before bringing them out of the library. It is also in the same place where borrowed materials are returned.
- Reference Section- contains rich and varied reference materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, yearbooks, annuals, atlases, etc.
- Periodical Section- supplements the book collections. Included are magazines, journals and other forms of serial publications available locally and abroad through subscriptions. Copies of daily newspapers are also available.
- Information File- is a collection of pamphlets, clippings dealing with subjects of current interest.
- Filipiniana Section- gives a feeling of pride as a Filipino. One may browse on the pages of Filipiniana books be it in culture, literature, history, etc. written by Filipino or foreign authors.
- Carrels Section- this section is intended for graduate school students.
- Internet Section- internet is readily available for students’ research
